How long does a backyard turf install take in the Inland Empire?
Most Inland Empire backyard turf installs take two to three days for a 500 to 1,000 square foot yard. Demo and base prep fill day one, the base cures overnight, and we lay, seam, and infill the turf on day two. Heavy grading or larger yards push it to four days.

People ask us this before they ask about price. They want to know how long their yard will be a construction site. Fair question.
The honest answer depends on the yard. A flat 600 square foot backyard off Esplanade in San Jacinto is a two-day job. A sloped lot near the base of Mount San Jacinto with a retaining wall in the mix can run a week.
Day one: demo and base
We pull the old sod or gravel, dig down about 3 to 4 inches, and haul it out. Then we bring in class II road base, spread it, wet it, and compact it to roughly 90 percent with a plate compactor. This is the part homeowners underestimate. A soft base is why turf wrinkles and dips two summers later.
The base sits overnight. We do not rush it.
Day two: turf, seams, and infill
We roll the turf out and let it sit in the sun so the blades relax. In Hemet heat over 100 degrees that takes maybe an hour. We cut it to the yard, seam the panels with glue and staples, nail the perimeter every few inches, and brush in a silica or antimicrobial infill to hold the blades upright.
By the end of day two you can walk on it.
What makes a job take longer
| Situation | Added time |
|---|---|
| Standard flat backyard | 2 days |
| Grading or drainage fixes | +1 day |
| Retaining wall or pavers first | +2 to 4 days |
| Pet turf with deodorizer base | +half day |
Dog owners get a slightly different build. We use a more open backing and a stone base that lets urine drain straight through, which is why our pet-friendly turf jobs add a half day for the extra base work.
What does a backyard install cost?
Most Inland Empire backyards run $8 to $14 per square foot installed. The spread comes from demo volume, base depth, and turf face weight. We quote after we walk the yard, not over the phone.
One more thing worth checking before you book: your HOA. Several communities around Winchester and French Valley require a turf sample and color approval before install. We have pulled that paperwork for customers more than once.
