Walls That Work as Hard as They Look

A retaining wall is not just a stack of blocks. It is an engineered structure that holds back soil, redirects water, and transforms unusable slopes into functional outdoor space. At SoCal Artificial Turfs, we build retaining walls that solve real problems while adding serious curb appeal to your property.

Across the Inland Empire, sloped lots are everywhere. From the hills of Hemet and San Jacinto to the graded neighborhoods of Menifee, Murrieta, and Temecula, thousands of homeowners deal with yards that wash out in the rain, erode over time, or simply cannot be used because the grade is too steep. A properly built retaining wall fixes all of that.

We install both structural retaining walls and decorative accent walls. Structural walls are designed to hold back significant soil loads on hillsides and sloped properties. These require proper engineering, compacted base material, drainage behind the wall, and the right block system to handle the lateral pressure. Decorative walls are shorter, typically used to create raised planter beds, define garden borders, or add visual layers to a flat yard.

Every retaining wall we build starts with a compacted gravel base, includes perforated drainage pipe and gravel backfill behind the wall, and uses interlocking block systems that are rated for the load they need to carry. We do not cut corners on the parts you cannot see, because those are the parts that determine whether your wall is still standing in 20 years.

Our crew has built walls across Riverside County and San Bernardino County for residential properties, HOA common areas, and commercial sites. Whether you need a 2-foot garden border or a 6-foot hillside wall with a tiered design, we handle the full scope -- grading, excavation, base prep, block installation, backfill, drainage, and cap stones.

Why It Matters

Benefits of a Retaining Wall

Erosion Control

Stop soil from washing downhill during Inland Empire rainstorms. A retaining wall locks your yard in place and protects your foundation, patios, and landscaping from erosion damage.

Usable Space

Turn a sloped, wasted hillside into a flat, functional area. Add a patio, turf area, garden bed, or play space on land that was previously unusable.

Property Value

A well-built retaining wall adds real value to your home. It signals to buyers that the property has been properly graded, drained, and maintained -- all things appraisers look for.

Design Flexibility

Choose from a range of block colors, textures, and cap styles. Create curved walls, tiered walls, or straight runs. Add built-in seating, planter pockets, or lighting.

Our Process

How We Build Your Retaining Wall

Every wall starts with the right foundation. Here is how we approach each project.

Site Assessment

We walk your property, evaluate the slope, soil conditions, and drainage patterns, and determine the right wall type and height for your situation.

Design & Materials

We help you choose block style, color, and cap stones. For walls over 4 feet, we coordinate engineered drawings and permits.

Excavation & Base

We dig the trench, compact the subgrade, and lay a level gravel base. This is the most important step -- a bad base means a failed wall.

Build & Finish

Blocks go up course by course with proper setback. Drainage gravel and pipe go behind the wall. Cap stones are glued on top, and the site is cleaned up.

Common Questions

Retaining Wall FAQ

We primarily work with interlocking concrete block systems like Allan Block and Belgard. These are engineered for structural integrity and come in a range of colors and textures. For decorative accent walls, we also use natural stone and stacked stone veneer depending on the design.

In most Inland Empire cities, walls over 4 feet tall require a building permit and may need engineered drawings. Walls under 4 feet typically do not need a permit, but setback and drainage requirements still apply. We handle the permit process for you when needed.

Most retaining wall projects in the Inland Empire range from $3,000 to $15,000 depending on the length, height, material, and site conditions. A short 2-foot garden wall is on the lower end, while a 4-foot structural wall with drainage on a hillside will be higher. We provide free on-site estimates with exact pricing.

Every retaining wall we build includes a proper drainage system. We install perforated drain pipe behind the base course, backfill with drainage gravel, and use filter fabric to prevent soil migration. This keeps hydrostatic pressure from building up behind the wall, which is the number one cause of wall failure.
