Artificial Turf Installation in Menifee Lakes and Audie Murphy Ranch

SoCal Artificial Turfs installs artificial turf in Menifee Lakes, Audie Murphy Ranch, Heritage Lake, and the rest of Menifee, California. Menifee dirt moves. Plan for it.

Pull the sod off a tract yard near Antelope Road and you hit clay under about three inches of imported topsoil. It swells in February and cracks open in August. Turf laid straight onto that clay reads soft underfoot inside two summers.

So we over excavate. Four inches minimum, closer to five on the older Sun City side where nobody ever recompacted the pad after a spa or a pool went in. Class II base goes down in two lifts, wet, and gets run with a plate compactor to roughly 90 percent. Steve checks it by heel. If his boot leaves a print, it goes back under the machine.

That extra half day is the difference between a flat yard and a lumpy one.

How much does artificial turf cost in Menifee?

Residential installs generally run $9 to $14 per square foot. The spread is access and demo, not the turf itself.

A 600 square foot backyard off La Piedra with a gate wide enough for the mini skid sits at the low end. The same yard behind a block wall with a 34 inch side gate means we wheelbarrow every yard of base in and every load of spoil out through the side of the house. That is labor, and it prices accordingly.

The newer tracts run architectural review on anything you change in a front yard. Turf usually gets approved. What gets kicked back is a plan with no plant material and no defined border.

We draw the submittal with a bender board or paver ribbon edge and a strip of decorative rock or a flower bed against the house. Two extra days on the calendar. Then it clears. Back yards nobody bothers with.

Pet turf, and what 108 degrees does to it

Menifee runs hot from late June into September. Any turf gets hot in direct sun. Anyone telling you their product stays cool is selling you something.

What we actually control is infill and drainage. On dog yards we run a zeolite blend instead of straight silica sand, because it holds ammonia rather than letting it sit down in the base, and we keep the base open so a rinse leaves instead of pooling. More on our pet friendly turf page.

Hose it down before the dogs go out at three in the afternoon. That works better than anything you can buy.
