Artificial Turf in Orangecrest and Mission Grove

SoCal Artificial Turfs installs artificial turf, pet turf, and pavers in Orangecrest and Mission Grove on the south side of Riverside. Residential turf runs $9 to $14 per square foot installed over four inches of compacted Class II base, and the turf carries a 16 year manufacturer warranty.

The tracts off Trautwein Road and Van Buren Boulevard share one problem, and it is under the grass rather than on top of it. Six inches of imported topsoil sitting on hardpan clay.

Dig a test hole in one of those backyards in July and the shovel stops. That clay takes on water through a wet winter and shrinks hard by the second week of August. Turf laid straight on native dirt out there reads fine the first season and shows a wave in the roll by the second summer, usually along the longest run of the yard where the seam is.

How we build a base on the south Riverside lots

We over excavate to roughly six inches on the swelling lots instead of the four we would use on a stable pad, then bring the whole thing back with Class II base compacted in two lifts to 90 percent. Four inches of compacted base is the floor. We do not go under that.

Gopher wire goes down first on any yard that backs open ground toward Sycamore Canyon. The runs come in from the slope side, and wire costs a fraction of pulling turf back up to chase a tunnel that surfaced under a seam.

The other thing we find in these yards is old irrigation. Tracts in this part of Riverside were planted heavy with lawn and the lines run everywhere. We hand dig the first pass near valve boxes rather than let a machine find a lateral for us.

What does pet turf cost in Mission Grove?

Same $9 to $14 per square foot as the rest of our residential work, and most of what we install off Mission Grove Parkway is pet friendly turf. Dog yards get a free draining base and zeolite worked into the infill, which is what handles the ammonia rather than the turf itself.

Rinse it. That is most of the maintenance, and we walk owners through it on the last day of the job. More detail is in our guide on cleaning pet turf in the Inland Empire.

Full sun in Orangecrest in August is real. A turf yard at 2pm is not comfortable barefoot and no installer can honestly tell you otherwise, so we push shade structures or a pergola on the west facing yards and keep the dog run on the side that loses sun first.

HOA design review

Some of the newer tracts run design review on front yard changes. We build to whatever the packet asks for, including header board lines and the mow strip, and we would rather see the submittal before we order material than rip out a front yard that got kicked back.

Backyard remodels, not just turf

Half the yards we build in this part of Riverside are a mix. Turf in the middle, pavers off the slider, decorative rock along the fence line, and a raised bed where the old planter was falling apart. Putting greens run $18 to $28 per square foot if you want one worked into the plan.

We also cover the rest of the city. Our Riverside turf page and the Canyon Crest page have more on how we work the east and central sides.

If we built your yard off Trautwein or Van Buren, naming Orangecrest and the work we did in a Google review helps the next neighbor decide.

Bill quotes the job and Steve runs the install. He measures the yard, marks the seam layout so the seams fall where you will not walk them, and we price off the actual square footage instead of a per yard guess. Call 951.961.4248 and we will come look at the pad.
