Artificial Turf Installation in Joshua Tree, CA
Last updated: June 2026
Artificial turf in Joshua Tree has to handle 110 degree surface heat, strong UV, and sandy soil over caliche. We install UV stabilized turf with a 4 inch compacted base and a heavier silica sand infill for wind resistance. Most jobs between Park Boulevard and Highway 62 wrap in two days.
Why High Desert Homeowners Switch to Turf
We started taking jobs out in Joshua Tree because the homeowners up here have a problem nobody else wants to solve. Sod does not survive the summer. Decorative gravel blows around in the wind events that roll through every spring. Real grass burns through 60 plus gallons per square foot per year to stay green in this climate.
Bill Borger owns the company. Steve runs the crew with 20+ years in landscape contracting. We install turf and nothing else, which is why we are willing to drive out past Yucca Valley to do it.
What the High Desert Does to Cheap Turf
We pulled a roll of big box store turf out of a vacation rental near Onaga Trail last September. It was three years old. The backing had gone brittle from UV. The fibers had laid flat in the wear path between the back door and the hot tub. It looked nothing like the picture on the box.
Residential grade turf holds up out here. The stuff we install carries a 16 year manufacturer warranty. The backing is UV stabilized. The fibers come in heat reflective greens that read 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the cheap stuff at the same time of day.
Base Prep Matters More Here Than Anywhere Else
The soil out by the National Park is mostly sand over caliche. Compaction reads different on the gauge. We run a 4 inch lift of class II road base, water it, compact to 95% Proctor, then re check after settling. Skipping that re check is how seams pillow when the first big wind event hits.
Infill matters too. We use a heavier silica sand infill on Joshua Tree jobs because thin profiles let the wind under the fibers and lift them. The crew weights the perimeter with bender board and 6 inch galvanized nails on 6 inch centers. Most installers run 12 inch centers. Out here that is not enough.
What We Charge in Joshua Tree
Most Joshua Tree turf jobs run between $9 and $13 per square foot installed. That covers demo, base, turf, infill, and seaming. Pet rated turf runs about a dollar more. Putting greens are quoted separately. We give free estimates and walk every property before quoting. Bill answers the phone most days.
We also work the surrounding communities: Yucca Valley, Desert Hot Springs, Indio Hills, Bermuda Dunes, and North Palm Springs. Same crew, same install spec, same warranty.
