Artificial Turf Installation in San Bernardino
SoCal Artificial Turfs installs synthetic grass across San Bernardino, CA, including pet turf, putting greens, and full front-and-back yard conversions. Most residential jobs in SB run $8-$14 per square foot installed, and our crew typically finishes a 600 sq ft yard in a single day.
We drive from our San Jacinto shop out to San Bernardino two or three times a month. The 215 corridor keeps it under 40 minutes, and we've done enough work along Baseline, in Del Rosa, and near Cal State San Bernardino to know the neighborhoods well.
Soil in San Bernardino tends to be sandy and compacted - especially in the older neighborhoods south of Highland Ave. That's actually good for drainage. We still lay 3-4 inches of Class II road base and compact it to 95% density, but we don't usually need the extra gravel layer we'd put down in clay-heavy areas like Moreno Valley.
What Does Turf Cost in San Bernardino?
A 500 sq ft front yard conversion runs $4,000-$7,000 depending on turf grade, base prep, and whether we're removing existing sod or hardscape. Pet turf with antimicrobial backing adds about $1.50 per square foot. Putting greens are a different animal - shorter pile, firmer base, USGA-spec layering - and typically land between $16-$22 per square foot installed.
We price every job after a site visit. Square footage is the biggest factor, but access matters too. A backyard off an alley near downtown SB with a narrow gate means wheelbarrow runs instead of a Bobcat, and that adds labor hours.
Common San Bernardino Turf Projects
Full front yard conversions are the most popular request here. San Bernardino water rates keep climbing, and a lot of homeowners along Waterman Ave and in the Verdemont area are done watering dead patches through August heat that regularly hits 105F.
We also do a lot of pet turf in backyards. Drainage is the whole game with pet turf - we perforate the weed barrier, slope the base 1-2% toward the property edge, and use turf with a high perforation rate (at least 30 holes per square foot) so urine drains through instead of pooling.
And putting greens. We've installed a few in the University District and one large one off Kendall Drive that was 800 sq ft with a sand trap border.
Why San Bernardino Homeowners Switch to Turf
Water savings. A 1,000 sq ft natural lawn in SB uses roughly 44,000 gallons a year. Turf uses zero. At current SBMWD rates, that's $300-$500 a year back in your pocket. Most customers break even on the install within 4-6 years, and turf lasts 15-20 years with basic maintenance.
Heat is the other driver. Real grass goes dormant or dies in San Bernardino summers unless you water it constantly. Turf stays green year-round. It does get hot to the touch on 110F days - we always recommend light-colored turf with heat-reflective technology for yards that get direct afternoon sun.
