What does artificial turf cleaning cost in the Inland Empire?
A full deep clean on Inland Empire artificial turf runs about $0.25 to $0.60 per square foot, so a 600 square foot backyard lands between $150 and $360. Price moves with pet use, how compacted the infill has gone, and how much windblown dust has packed into the perforations.
What changes the price on a turf cleaning job?
Three things, mostly. Pet yards sit at the top of that range because the infill has to come out and go back in, not just get brushed. Yards with no dogs and a shade tree usually land near the bottom. And square footage cuts both ways: a 200 square foot side yard still costs us a truck, hoses, and a power broom, so the per foot number climbs on small jobs the same way it does on a small install.

Fresh infill is its own line item. Silica runs roughly $0.10 to $0.20 per square foot at the volumes we buy, and a coated infill for a dog run costs more than that. On a 600 square foot yard, replacing spent infill adds somewhere around $60 to $150 on top of the clean.

A homeowner off Sanderson in Hemet called us in July. Her turf smelled every afternoon once the sun hit it, and she was ready to tear the whole thing out. Six year old turf, dog run along the fence line.
That call comes in from May through September. A west facing yard in Hemet or San Jacinto can push surface temperature well past 130 degrees on an afternoon, and anything sitting down in the infill starts to cook.
The fiber was fine. The infill had gone flat and the drainage holes were plugged with fine tan dust, the same dust that coats everything out here between June and September. We power broomed it, flushed it, and put fresh infill in. She kept the turf.
How often does artificial turf need a deep clean in the Inland Empire?
Once a year for a yard with no pets. Twice for a dog yard, and we usually put those in spring and again in October once the worst of the heat breaks.
Rinsing is not the same as cleaning. A hose down every week or two keeps dust from packing into the perforations, and it takes four or five minutes. That habit alone stretches the gap between paid cleanings.
Drainage is the part homeowners never look at. Hole punched backing drains better than 30 inches of water per hour when it is new, and plugged perforations drop that number fast. Why turf gets dirtier out here than it does at the coast
Wind and dust do most of it. San Jacinto and Hemet sit in a bowl that collects fine silt, and the afternoon wind through the pass drives it straight down into the pile. That silt settles into the infill layer and slowly seals the perforations in the backing.
Once those holes are sealed, water stops moving. Anything organic sitting on top stays wet.
Pet yards accelerate this. Urine does not evaporate out of a plugged turf system, it sits in the infill and comes back at you the second the surface passes 100 degrees.
How often should artificial turf be cleaned?
Rinse monthly. Deep clean once a year in most yards, twice a year in heavy pet yards or in wind exposed lots out toward Winchester and the desert side.
If you have no dogs, no overhanging trees, and a shaded yard, you can stretch a deep clean to every 18 months. We have seen turf in Soboba Springs go two years between cleans and still look right.

What a deep clean actually involves
- Blow and pick the yard clean of leaves, seed pods, and rock that migrated in from the border.
- Power broom the entire surface against the grain to stand the fiber back up and break the crust on the infill.
- Flush with water and an enzyme treatment, working in sections so the solution has contact time before it drains.
- Check drainage by flooding a section and watching how fast it takes water. Slow spots get worked again.
- Top off infill. Most yards have lost a noticeable amount to wind and foot traffic by year five.
- Re-broom to settle the new infill down to the backing.
A 600 square foot yard takes roughly three to four hours.
What cleaning will not fix
If the base was never compacted right, cleaning is lipstick. You will feel it underfoot as soft spots and see it as low areas that hold water after a rare storm.
Same goes for seams that were glued on a hot afternoon and pulled apart. And for turf that was laid straight on dirt with no base at all, which we still find on jobs we get called out to inspect around Menifee and Perris.

Is it worth cleaning turf that is ten years old?
Usually. Turf fiber in this climate holds up longer than most people expect, and the stuff we install carries a 16 year manufacturer warranty. What fails first is almost never the blade. It is the infill, the drainage, and the seams.
Clean it first. If it still smells or still ponds after a proper deep clean, then you are looking at a base problem and it is time to talk about pulling it up.
